Prague Castle, Czech Pražský hrad, also called Hradčany, collective name for an aggregation of palaces, churches, offices, fortifications, courtyards, and gardens in Prague, covering approximately 110 acres (45 hectares).Prague castle was built in the 9th century and is the official office of the President of the Czech Republic. The Lidice Memorial an important sight in connection with World War II history, serves as a tribute to the village of Lidice in Czechoslovakia. In 1942, the village was destroyed and nearly all of its citizens were killed or dispersed by the Ordnungspolizei of Nazi Germany in response to Operation Anthropoid, the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich.
