Overview
Trebic UNESCO tour
Třebíč is a town in the Czech Republic that offers a rich cultural and historical heritage. It is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Jewish Quarter and the Basilica of St. Procopius, which date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. Třebíč is also known for its traditional crafts, such as pottery, glassmaking, and embroidery. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views of the Jihlava River, the picturesque town center, and the nearby nature reserves.
The Basilica of St. Prokop in Třebíč is one of the most remarkable examples of Romanesque architecture in the Czech Republic. It was built in the 13th century as part of a Benedictine monastery, and later became a parish church. St. Prokop features a three-aisled nave, a transept, a crypt, and a polygonal apse. Basilica interior is decorated with frescoes from various periods, some of which depict scenes from the life of St. Prokop, the patron saint of Bohemia. There is a valuable collection of liturgical objects, such as reliquaries, chalices, and vestments housed in St. Prokop basilica. This basilica is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the nearby Jewish Quarter. These landmarks are an example of the coexistence of Christian and Jewish cultures in medieval Europe.
The Jewish Town includes two synagogues, a rabbinical school, a cemetery, and a network of narrow streets and courtyards. It is one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in Europe. Visiting the Jewish Town is a unique opportunity to learn about the history, culture, and traditions of the Jewish people in Třebíč and beyond.
