Hiking in Czech – Saxony Switzerland

Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland is a natural region straddling the border between the Czech Republic and Germany, part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. On the Czech side, Bohemian Switzerland National Park was founded in 2000 to preserve its unique rock formations, pristine forests and rivers, covering an area of about 79 square kilometers. It adjoins Saxon Switzerland National Park just across the border in Germany, established in 1990. Together, the two parks form the heart of a wider protected landscape of around 700 square kilometers.

The Czech side is home to attractions such as the Pravčická brána — the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe — and the Kamenice River Gorge, while just over the border in Germany lies the famous Bastei Bridge. The whole region is a popular destination for hikers, climbers, and nature lovers drawn to its scenic beauty and rich biodiversity.

• Pravčická brána Hike — Hike with our guide through deep forest and along picturesque sandstone rock formations to the largest natural arch in Europe. This is a moderately strenuous hike, suited to good walkers.
• Bastei — A less demanding option for those who can’t walk too much. The Bastei rock formation has been a tourist attraction for over 200 years: a wooden bridge first linked the rocks in 1824, replaced in 1851 by the present sandstone Bastei Bridge. Admire fairy-tale rock formations, a medieval castle, and stunning views of the Elbe River.
