Prague tours
Welcome to Prague is a private 3-hour introduction to the Czech capital, designed for visitors who want to understand the city before exploring it in more depth. Travelling with a private guide and car or minivan, you will connect Prague’s main historic districts, famous landmarks and panoramic viewpoints while learning how the city developed on both banks of the Vltava.
The route brings together Prague Castle and Hradčany, the Charles Bridge area, Old Town Square, the Vltava embankment and the Dancing House, while also giving your guide room to introduce quieter streets and viewpoints that many first-time visitors miss. Because this is a private tour, the emphasis can be adjusted to your interests, starting point, mobility and plans for the rest of the day.
This tour is built as an orientation rather than an in-depth interior visit to a single monument. It helps you understand how Prague Castle, Hradčany, Malá Strana, the river and the Old Town fit together geographically and historically. Your guide can spend more time on the places that matter most to you while keeping the overall route realistic within three hours.
All Top Travel Prague tours can be customised according to your interests and practical needs. A typical Welcome to Prague route may include:
Prague did not grow from Vyšehrad alone. Prague Castle was established earlier, while Vyšehrad developed in the 10th century as another important Přemyslid stronghold. Over time, settlements on both sides of the Vltava grew into the historic districts visitors know today, including Hradčany, Malá Strana, Staré Město and Nové Město.
The 14th century was a defining period. Under Charles IV, Prague became an imperial residence and a major political, religious and cultural centre of Central Europe. He founded the New Town in 1348 and transformed the scale and importance of the city. The later centuries added Renaissance palaces, Baroque churches, 19th-century civic architecture, Art Nouveau and modern buildings, which is why a short orientation tour can move through so many different periods in a relatively small area.
Prague became the capital of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918. When Czechoslovakia peacefully separated into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on 1 January 1993, Prague became the capital of the Czech Republic, now officially also known as Czechia. The city’s historic centre has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1992. You can read more about the protected area on the UNESCO Historic Centre of Prague page.
Prague’s historic centre is compact, but its hills, river crossings and connected districts can be confusing on a first visit. A three-hour private orientation gives you a mental map of the city while covering more ground than a walking-only introduction. It is particularly useful if you want to decide where to return later for a longer visit.
The vehicle also makes it easier to connect the elevated Hradčany and Strahov areas with the Old Town and riverfront without spending a large part of the tour climbing hills or transferring between public transport services. There is still some walking at individual stops, and Prague’s historic streets often include cobblestones and uneven surfaces, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
If Prague Castle is your main interest and you want more time inside the complex, consider the dedicated private Prague Castle tour. You can also browse our wider collection of private Prague tours to plan the rest of your stay.
The current Welcome to Prague product includes a car or minivan, with vehicle type depending on the number of guests, and a private guide for the full excursion. The standard duration is 3 hours and the published starting rate is 90 EUR per hour.
Because this is primarily a city orientation, the exact order of stops can change with traffic, temporary access restrictions and your accommodation location. If you would like to add an interior visit or spend longer at a particular monument, mention it when you send your request so the route and timing can be planned accordingly.
